An exercise in letting go.

February 15, 2017 by Christina Santini in Transformation Keys, Emotional Management

This is an exercise inspired from native Indians and their fire ceremony - it is a sacred ceremony for growth to happen, and just very helpful in identifying what we need to let go of and making a conscious decision to do so.

1. Take a sheet of paper and cut into thin strips. On each strip write down whatever it is that is holding you back. Think habits, beliefs, memories etc. - what are your emotional triggers and what are the bits of negative self-talk that is constantly running in the back of your head whenever you consider moving forward? Write whatever comes to mind down on strips of paper.

2. Light a candle and find an empty metal waste basket - or use a fireplace if that is an option.

3. Read out loud every word on each strip of paper - and feel whatever emotion is attached to that.

4. For each strip of paper you read out loud, you hold it into the flame and simply say "Goodbye - I am letting go now. I do not need this anymore." Exhale any sadness or anger as each strip of emotion lights up and burns away.

That's it.
