Everyday we are either running towards something or away from something. Think about it for a moment. What drives your actions.... even in the small every day behavior. Why do you buy diet pills, why do you drink alcohol, why do you obsess about diets, why do you avoid talking to those you are most attracted to, why do you avoid taking up a new sport, why do you always have to spend hours getting ready - and yes, this goes for men too, cos God knows vanity knows no gender.
Most of us have centered our lives around our very fears.
We are busy running away from something - using our energy and power to focus on what it is we do NOT want in our life.
I.e. we don't want to be fat, we don't want to be shamed while speaking our mind in public, we don't want to feel unloved, we don't want to be rejected, we don't want to be alone, we don't want to feel stupid, we don't want to feel insufficient etc. etc.
What do you think you get when you busy yourself with your fears?
More of what triggers your fears.
When we focus on what we don't want, we are on high-alert all the time. We are chronically in stress-mode - this becomes our modus of operandi. Constantly seeking out red flags of what can confirm our fears - and then try to suppress, avoid and distract from it. That is a lot of energy we are using on something that is not ever going to create any positive output in our life. Now it would make sense if it was a matter of life or death - i.e. running away from a cheetah, but feelings are just that. Feelings - we cannot control them, but we can let go of them.
This is why running away never works.
Escapism becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. We continue to get more of what we don't want, until we decide to take that deep breath in, face it, deal with it in a non-reactive manner - and let it go.
This is the only way to make things you don't want in your life vanish.
We attract that which we already are.
Right now you have a mantra. You are brainwashing yourself with something, whether you are conscious about it or not. Most of us will have some type of garbage going on i.e.: "I am fat. I am unloveable. I am stupid. I am ugly. I am not enough."
Our reality then centers around a never ending hunger to try to prove worthy. And trust me, people can feel that crap, and it's not attractive. Trying is very tiring for everyone - yourself included.
You cannot DO enough to BE enough.
That's why we have WallStreet workaholics, addicts, trophy wives, shopaholics, fame-seekers and other dysfunctional soul-starving behaviors.
Nothing in this world will ever be enough when you try to fill up a void that is bottomless.
Think about it again. What drives you to put on your suit and tie in the morning? Are you trying to prove yourself worthy in this skin you are in - running away from insufficiency and judgment? What drives you to put on make-up and be on the treadmill for hours, taking pictures of your ABS and posting it on Instagram - is it a love for what you do, because you are PASSIONATE that what you are doing is making a difference and part of a better world, or are you just trying to avoid your inner voice calling you ugly, fat etc.?
Instead of focusing of what you are scared of, your challenge this week is to focus on what you want MORE of.
I want you to translate that into a mantra that connects with your being. You want to do this, because like attracts like. So however corny it may seem to you, this is a natural law which is proven time and time again. Misery loves company and so forth.
Whatever it is that is driving you - whether you are scared of not being loved, getting rejected, not being pretty enough, skinny enough etc. Change it to what you want - and BECOME THAT. Yes, become the change you want to see in the world - cliche but true.
Examples of what that might sound like:
I AM LOVE
I AM ENOUGH
I AM BEAUTIFUL
I AM STRONG AND GETTING STRONGER EVERY DAY IN EVERY WAY
I AM PERFECTLY IMPERFECT
I AM VIBRANT
Choose whichever resonates with you - and commit to run towards what it is you WANT in your life. No more escaping. No more running away. Run towards what you want. It is really pretty straight forward, yet most of us spend a lifetime running away from our fears and never experience what it is we truly desire in our life. It is waste of life.
Today is the day to change focus.
Get real clear about where you want to go - and NOT what you want to avoid. Look at your New Years resolutions - are they FEAR based or LOVE based? You can't hate your body to lasting weight-loss either, so be super mindful what you put your mind to. Because where focus goes energy flows. So don't worry about anything else. just change focus.
Ideally you want to write this down and put in your wallet and look at daily.
