How do we move past our trauma?

June 10, 2015 by Christina Santini in Transformation Keys, Self-Worth, Addictions

Trauma is a fact of life. What differs is how we cope with trauma. Trauma doesn't have to be our destiny.

Most of us find it very difficult to separate what happens to us from what we are.

We often base our belief system and worth around factors that happen to us.

This makes us very vulnerable in this skin we are in.

We are not our trauma.

Only when we realize that, can we move past it. Only when we let go and decide to rewrite our story every new day, will we move past our past.

The key to master our destiny is to be conscious of the many ways our past tends to predict our future.

The automatic negative thoughts running on replay in the background. Our habitual self-sabotaging ways. Our obsession with perfectionism - even "the perfect recovery" which is something often seen in rehabs

All of which creates a further dissonance from being OK with who we are at our core.

And this means being less reactive, less judgmental and embracing our flaws with a sense of:

  • Compassion
  • Curiosity
  • Care
  • Consistency

With the term consistency we are talking about taking steps every day to show up for yourself in loving ways. Having a self-care routine in place. Committing to stop hating on yourself and gently nudging yourself back to a place where you can exhale fully and... be.
